Lichen Pattern at Tarsaghaunmore

The lichens at Tarsaghaunmore are
Mouse-brown with black pro-thallus = Fuscidea cyathoides
White most likely to be Aspicilia calcarea
The rock is giving a mixed signal - Fuscidea cyathoides is
characteristic of nutrient-poor conditions such as sandstones where A.
calcarea grows on limestone.
What you may have is a calcareous sandstone where the cement has
leached to the base of the rock where the Aspicilia has grown. In the
west Aspicilia calcarea is what I like to think as the snowy blanket
across the tops of limestone dry walls. [comment from Maria Cullen]
